Oreck XL Air Purifier

For those of us who care about the air we breathe inside of our homes, there are ways to improve its quality. Air purification systems have been around for decades, attempting to help us breathe a little easier. No matter where we are, air quality is extremely important to our health. Seeing as how most of us spend a great deal of time in our homes, we shouldn’t have to worry about inhaling a myriad of potentially damaging particles (and odors) contained in the atmosphere. One purifier in particular, the Oreck Pro Shield XL, claims to help keep the air clean and prevent these particles from entering where we eat, sleep, and carry on with our everyday lives.

This table top model appears sleek in design and comes with a remote control. It allows the user to power up or down, control the three speed settings (silent, medium, or high), as well as odor control. It also comes with a UV night-light.

To promote clean air, Oreck uses the “Truman Cell TM,” a patented filter that doesn’t need replacing. The filter acts as a magnetic device that pulls unwanted debris out of the air and traps it in the filtration system. Running at an optimum level, the system can clean the bad air from a room (120 sq. ft.) in about thirty minutes. The Truman Cell does, however, require cleaning every 90 days or so.

As seen on TV, David Oreck uses infomercials to stake his claims and back his products. On the Oreck website, customers offer testimonials as to how well the Pro Shield XL works. Amazon.com shows a mixed bag of customer reviews and ratings, ranging from 1 to five stars. Some customers swear by Oreck air purifiers and their professional quality, while others warn prospective buyers to save their money and go with the competition. Consumer reviews for this product can also be found on YouTube, giving us the pluses and minuses in terms of maintenance, but also whether or not this system is worth the price of purchase. The Signature Series (Burl Walnut) is currently unavailable, but the silver model is in full stock in most online stores.
