Shark Steam Pocket Mop

The Shark Steam Pocket Mop claims to make floor cleaning easy and sanitizes your floors. Does it really work as advertised?
Bookmark and Share

The Shark Steam Pocket Mop is a new hard surface cleaning system for floors and baseboards.  You can buy it from the same infomercial pitchmen who sell the Shark Navigator vacuum.   The Steam Pocket version is a new and improved upgrade of the Shark Steam Mop that has been around for a few years now. The Steam Pocket Mop can be used on tile, laminates, hardwood, and baseboards.

The pitch is that the super heated steam breaks down the dirt, pulls the dirt into the system, sanitizing the mopped surface.  The infomercial uses a black light to show how clean and sanitized your floor is with other mops.  It claims to be light, quick, & easy and the best cleaning product you have ever used.  They say its better than the Swiffer.

The As Seen on TV Steam Pocket Mop features three pocket mop heads that swivel 180 degrees.  The heads come in three shapes for different cleaning applications.  The standard head of course cleans the regular floors, while the triangle head handles tight spots like bathrooms and areas around toilets and sinks.  The extra large pocket mop head is used for large rooms.

The cleaning pockets are double sided for more cleaning power.  The are supposed to allow for floor drying while you use it-floors should be dry within seconds.  Additionally, the pocket heads are machine washable and reusable, saving your money and the environment the infomercial claims.

Some additional accessories can be had with the mop such as jumbo water reservoir, telescoping handle, extra long extension cord, and a steam duster.  Have you purchased tried the Shark Steam Pocket Mop?  Add your review or rating.

Shark Steam Pocket Mop

I bought the Shark Steam Pocket Mop about 3 Months ago. I have owned 3 other steam mops and the Shark is better than the rest of them. I compared it to an industrial mop and bucket. I steamed half of my kitchen with the Shark, and the other half with a commercial mop and bucket. I then took Windex and some white cloths and went over both areas and the mop left a lot of dirt and dried food, while the Shark very little dirt on it. If I had of gone over the mopped area as much with the Shark, I'm sure the rag would of been clean. None of the others I owned before had a large capcity water tank, large surface cleaning area, and can be turned over on the other side like the Shark. The only complaint I have is that it is cheaply built and makes me wonder how long it will last. I'm afraid if I drop it, that it will break and shatter.

Dislike Shark Steam Pocket Mop

I HATE IT!!!
The neck on my Shark Pocket steam mop broke after maybe 10 uses. My wood floors and my white ceramic tiles have such a horrible film on them after use, that the dogs paw prints and my husband's and my foots in this film look worse than dirty floors.
What a waste of money.

I bought this mop and used it twice on nmy large kitchen vinyl flooring. It loosed the vinyl in places leaving our floor really bumpy. I am so thoroughly disgusted...a big piece of junk if you ask me. It cannot be sed on any floors as it is advertised.

I have four cats and one dog. My house is a Zoo, but I'm a clean freak. Cleaning my small house three to four times a week was taking soo much time out of my life. The Shark was the best thing to ever happen to me cleaning wise! It makes everything smell amazing and it takes half the time of a mop and bucket! On my hardwood floor there had always been a darker spot in the middle of the room. Because it had been there when I bought the house, I had assumed it was the wood itself. After I ran the Shark over it, the dark spot faded, then finally went away! Amazing! My friends borrow it all the time, and they all love it to death as well!

Tell your friends to buy their own. Are they going to chip in and buy you a new one when yours is worn out?

Bought the Shark Steam Pocket from QVC. It had the larger floor head. I am thoroughly please on how much dirt the unit picks up as compared to a mop and bucket. I think the product is great!

I love it, love it , love it. My floors have never been cleaner and the depth of shine on my wood floor is unbelivable. I used it on ceramic tile, vinyl and wood flooring. Lightweight and easy to use. People that are having some problems must not be using it correctly or something because I give this machine the highest rating of anything I have ever used.

DO NOT BUY ANY OF THEIR PRODUCTS!!! I bought my mop at Sams and waited to use it. When I finally attempted to use it, it did not heat up enough to steam. It is useless. Customer Service for the company said I could send it in for repairs--for another $27.00. The concept is good, but the product SUCKS!!!!!

I bought this for my daughter almost a year ago. We were actually keeping the ceramic tile floors clean with the Hoover floor mate (this we had to return and replace, it stopped working after a short time!) We still have the Hoover floormate, it sits in the closet since we got the Shark Steam Pocket Mop. I love it, my daughter loves it! we clean a large kitchen, and an entry way and hall and a downstairs guest bathroom on one tank of water! the long cord is fantastic! Our floors are clean all the time now. We drag it out when ever we
need it, not like the floormate major project, no walking on floors for 30 minutes. now its mop and go, no chemicals. clean and safe around all 3 kids!!
Another thinig, if you read the directions you will have no problem, if you don't you will. The adjustable height handle the pumping action for extra dirty spots, great. When you wash your pads, do not add fabric softner etc.
it will probably ruin the pads. We have had no trouble there just wash in hyperallergenic soap (all) and dry them in dryer no dryer sheets or air dry.
Our ownly complaint is not enough pads and not real cheap! $20 to get one each xtra pads!! thats too much. after awhile they do not lose the dirt color and I guess you have to buy new ones. If it doesn't work for you--you ARE doing something wrong. also to who ever broke the handle, don't know how you did that????!!!!! like I said, 1 year now and it is still going strong!

Just because yours has not given you any problems, does not mean that those who do are doing something wrong. I mean, really. If you read the reviews on multiple websites, there is definitely a large minority of reviewers that all complain of the same 2 things. You think that means that there are just a ton of morons who don't know how to use this simple product? It is narrow-minded to think that your experience should speak for all.

Broken Steam Mop

Posted by Diane at Nov 24, 2010 05:46 AM
The handle to the steam mop has always bothered me as not so sturdy. There's a part of the handle at the bottom (above the water will area) that is plastic and mine broke in half!! It's not useless unless I want to get on my hands and knees.

I have NEVER burned myself using this, the only way to burn yourself is by being careless...i had to comment to your review because i dont want others to be discouraged and miss out on this awesome product.

leaves terrible streaks once its dry UGLY RESULTS

shark steam mop

Posted by Cathie at Apr 24, 2011 06:13 PM
I'm thinking that streaks are the result of it being used on floors that it probably shouldn't be used on...or a bad build up of grease (such as in a kitchen). If you used them on a wood floor or sealed floor (that has a wax on it), you're going to see streaks. The steam gets to about 200 degrees and melts gunk...it'll melt wax and grease.

I bought this today and was pleasantly surprised. After reading the horrible reviews, I was afraid but it did exactly what I hoped it would do. I've had a Hoover Floor Mate for years but it never got the edges and did not clean well. The Shark did a great job on our old vinyl linoleum and I was able to get under the cupboards and in tight spots that the Hoover wouldn't fit. It really did a great job and it's effortless! I would definitely recommend this product.

Clean but Filmy

Posted by Mazzuchelli at Jan 03, 2011 05:53 AM
Same experience as many above. The floors are much cleaner than using a mop but there is a film over the new wood floors as well as the older floors in the kitchen and breakfast room. I did the dining room with plain softened water and then the kitchen with the purified, softened well water and found no difference. Plan to go over them again today a couple of times or husband will make me take back. It is MUCH easier than mopping and leaves a clean smell versus a fragance, but the film is an issue.

usually happy with all shark products BUT

Posted by Lindsay Timmons at Feb 01, 2011 07:05 AM
I now have the shark pocket but before I had the first one with the one sided pad and it too broke in half.... I have really liked this one but the other day it wasn't getting hot, it would just produce the water. After continually pupming it I decided to take the rectangle head off and try the triangle head, when I released the head it SHOT out HOTTT water and realeased ALL the steam I had been pumping. Something was wrong witht he rectangle head and if it had gotten any skin, it would have been 3rd degree burn for sure! Thankfully it didn't! I am not sure what I need to do but I need to get this taken care of inceas need for a recall! That was very dangerous! Other than that I do think the prduct does a great job cleaning!

I agree

Posted by Trina MAddox at Aug 21, 2011 05:18 PM
I love my steam mop but I also had an issue with the rectangle mop ...the steam just came exploding out of it,,,I think it busted the spring at the bottom of it where it attaches to the hose...i had to jump back..the worse is that I think its crazy that you have to pay for shipping to and from for a defective product that they made...come on Shark..own up to the mistakes in your products and pay for the cost...why should the consumer have to pay extra for your defective products...not good costumer service at all...it's cheaper for me to just buy a new rectangle mop head..BUT, I do love the way it cleans and I hope I don't have any more trouble with it, I only had it for 8 months!!

Return for Repair

Posted by CJohnson at Feb 01, 2011 07:05 AM
Does anyone know where one would return the unit for repair? We've owned it for almost a year and finally decided enough is enough and want to get it fixed or replaced.

The mop head wont stay on...just pops off when it feels like it and water sprays out. The handl broke too. I heard a snap like breaking plastic and the handle lifts up from the bottom now. I taped it closed. For an $99 item, it should hold up much better than this. If anyone has an address (because customer service - located somewhere in india - is useless for info).

I feel for you. My Shark didn't last more than 10 uses. The had the same thing happen to me. The bottom part just "blew off" and that was then end of the mop. I keep snapping it right back on - but the minute I start to use it, it pops off again. I do have to say I loved it while it last.
UNHAPPY CUSTOMER!!!

I loved my mop when I first got it. I cleaned my kitchen floor all the time, no issues. Right around when it was 1 year old, it just STOPPED WORKING. When I plug it in to the outlet, the light does not turn on, the machine is not heating up to make steam, it is just broken. When I called the Shark Customer service, I spoke to a rep who said I was beyond my warranty and I could have it shipped out for repair for $70. I told him that was ridiculous when I only paid $99 in the first place. DO NOT BUY this piece of junk. For a $100 dollar product it should last longer than this. I cannot be any more displeased. I wish I would have seen a review like this before I bought one!!!

Posted by kp at May 21, 2011 05:59 AM
My husband was looking to buy me one. It looked amazing. But he asked around and did research first. He said the warranty lasts a certain amount of time, and then right after the warranty runs out, the mop stops working a short time after. Minerals from the steam build up and get clogged inside. So, we decided not to buy it. :( Sorry.

Handle Broke

Posted by Mary at Mar 02, 2011 06:33 PM
I used the Shark Steam Pocket Cleaner less than 10 times and the handle broke. I was shocked. I was in the middle of cleaning my kitchen floor and the handle just broke right off. No warning! The cleaner worked the few times I used it, but I am not a happy customer and feel like I wasted my money.

This is my second steam mop and the mop is horrible. I have softened water and i believe the water is what is making this mop not work properly as it is corroding the different parts. I would not recommend this mop at all. I used mine about 6 times and then it quit producing steam. Finally it did produce steam and the steam was shooting all over. Luckily i did not get burned from it. I will just clean my floor the right way, hands and knees with the bucket by my side.

I was just watching the infomercial and though 'Hey! I could really use this!' My house is ALL tile and I have a Swiffer. I use 4 cleaning pads every time I clean! But, after reading all you reviews about what a terrible product this is I guess I will try to find something else. Any suggestions?

Will not buy now

We don't live in the US, but my husband and I were ready to order this online (paying a lot more than the regular price plus the international S&H), but after reading the negative reviews, we won't do it.

Our house is all tile as well, and we have the Swiffer too, but for the entire house we use over 8 pads, and... listen to this... we pay over $12.00 for each box of cleaning pads!!! Way too much. This is why we wanted the Shark. We appreciate your suggestions on what can we get instead.

What w

Great for Laminates

Posted by Cathie at Apr 24, 2011 06:13 PM
I have a huge kitchen and dining room combined, two bathrooms (one with an undefinable floor, one with peel and stick), 3 bedrooms with wood flooring, and a mud room with peel and stick. I've yet to use it on the wood or in the mud room but I've had really good results everywhere else. I did the kitchen and dining room and had to clean the pad...then used it again in there and got up even more. I think this is because we'd been using a swiffer wet jet or regular mop and it never got up all of the greasy film left from cooking. I used this in a tiny bathroom and was shocked. I had mopped in there numerous times but the shark steam mop pad was disgusting afterward. It was peel and stick and I did make sure not to go over the same area too much...obviously 200 degree steam is going to melt things like wax, grease, and glue. One of my kids put stickers on the floor in the other bathroom and it left a sticky residue I could never get up...the steam mop did. The ONLY warnings I can give for those looking to buy, or wondering if you should buy...1) If you get this next to a painted wall for too long (and I assume wall papered would be bad too), you may bubble the paint. It's so hot it's like using a heat gun...which will bubble paint, melt wax..etc. and 2) If you have peel & stick flooring, wood flooring, or any floor with wax...you will need to be extremely careful. This should be an obvious thing but from reading other complaints, I guess it's not. So be warned...it'll melt floor wax leaving streaks. It may remove varnish or streak that as well. And it could loosen peel & stick tiles. I think as long as you don't leave the mop in one area too long, these things shouldn't be a problem but if you're too worried...just don't use it.

Shark Professional Steam Mop.

Posted by Frankie L. Rader at Jul 14, 2011 05:12 PM
I bought the professional steam mop from Costco on 5-4-11. It cleaned better than the old model with one big exception...It would leak and you had to go back and clean up the wet spots. If you tilted it, the water poured out
I returned it to Costco on 5-24 and bought a new one thinking this had been a fluke...It leaked immediately. I phoned the 800 number but was told there was nothing wrong with the mop...The call Center was in Asia and those overseas call Centers are a horrible experience
at best but to be told there was nothing wrong ...I wound up screaming. He also told me that maybe I should
order from them direct. He asaid it was made in China.
Made in the USA may be more expensive but is a much better product and worth the price.
Now to find a steam mopo made in the USA.

steam mop stopped up

Posted by m.black at Sep 02, 2011 05:55 PM
I have had this mop for over a year and have no problems until today. It heated properly and did a very good job on my tile floors. Today though it soundly like it was struggling to make steam. After several pumps of the handle the mop head flew off and hot water went all over the floor. Unplugged it and examined the parts and then put it back together. This time after plugging it back in, I leaned over too close to the handle and the power of the steam bursting out of the wrong area made the mop fly up and hit me on the lip. Beware of this machine!

Thank you for all of your reviews!

I have been wanting one of these steam mops. So of course i googled reviews for it, thank goodness i did! I have enough headaches in life without waisting what little money i have on a piece of junk that breaks! I appreciate everyones time to post reviews on this item. Also i have noticed reviews on other sites about the h2o steam mop as well. Guess i will Stick to mop and bucket. Hsn.com has a spin mop and bucket that looks pretty good. Guess uts the best option since none of these steam mops have good reviews. I will not buy after reading! Thanks again!

Unfortunately I have been really disappointed with the shark mop! Having dogs, I thought it would be a fantastic purchase as it would help to sanitise my floors and keep them nice and shiny. It did not work as well as my microfibre mop, which is a mere fraction of the price. Such a shame as I was hoping it would be as brilliant as they made out in the video. Perhaps mine did not work properly, as it was leaking many drops of water on the floor. Nevermind, I'm pleased for those who have had great success with it.

I HATE THE SHARK STEAM MOP!

Posted by Angie at Feb 04, 2012 09:05 AM
I received the Shark steam mop for Christmas 2 years ago. My husband and I loved it at first. He did most of the mopping! However, it has not worked properly for the last 6 months. I spews water everywhere! As we speak, we are taking time out of our busy schedules tearing it apart to see if we can fix it ourselves. I certainly won't be wasting my time with Shark's customer service either. Garbage day is coming soon-guess that is the mop's new home :(
