The Ronco Flavor Injector-Infomercial Truths Stretched
I am sitting here watching the Ronco knife infomercial when one of the freebies caught might eye.
The Ronco Showtime Six Star + knife infomercial is giving away the Solid Flavor Injector with your knife purchase. I don't need any knives but this Ronco Solid Flavor Injector looked pretty interesting because he injected solid things like garlic, olives, sun dried tomatoes, and herbs right into the meat before cooking it.
The Money Shot
Ron Popeil then cut the cooked meat to reveal the solid contents inside. It looked really good. In fact, he commented that that same meat cutting shot sold 3,000 flavor injectors instantly when they aired it before. It does seem like it would be tricky to physically inject solid items into meat- essentially a solid item too.
Ok- I want one. How do I get it. Ron Popeil explains that the free flavor injector is a $30 value. What a deal to get it for free with knife purchase right?
The Lie
Not so fast. I quick look online shows the Ronco Solid Flavor Injector for sale for only $6.49. It is a serious stretch of the truth to claim that it is a $30 value. If an infomercial pitchman is willing to resort to this type of sales tactic when the numbers clearly do not lie, then you have to wonder about the product claims in a general sense. After all, the effectiveness of the infomercial selling formula relies on the barrage of sales techniques working in tandem.
