Big Boss Grill

The Big Boss Grill claims to replace several kitchen appliances. Does it work?
Bookmark and Share

Carol Burnett's sidekick, Vicki Reynolds is the host of the  infomercial for the Big Boss Grill.  She demonstrates how you can use the Big Boss Grill as a grill, griddle, waffle iron, omelette  maker, mini-donut maker, and sandwich maker.

The selling point of the Big Boss Grill  is that is comes with interchangeable non-stick plates.  These plates allow you to remove them to make the different recipes and then throw them in the dishwasher.

The 30 minute infomercial was mainly Vicki Reynolds making different recipes with the Big Boss Grill.  In my opinion, the 30 minute format was not necessary because this grill is pretty self explanatory.

This interchangeable grill concept has already been done with the George Foreman G5 Grill.

What You Get

The grill sells with cookbook containing 50 recipes that you can prepare in under 5 minutes.  This classic as seen on TV pitch offers the Big Boss Grill for 4 payments of $19.95, then cuts off a payment, adds a free Big Boss Food Processor, then also adds omelette and donut plates, and a grill plate holder.

Does this new counter top appliance deliver the meal?  Please add your reviews of the Big Boss Grill if you have tried it.

Warning About Big Boss Grill

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT ORDER THIS GRILL!!!!!!! I have been waiting on mine for over a month and still nothing.

*After I placed the order I received an e-mail saying it had been shipped with a tracking number. When I went online to track it with UPS it said shipping information (only)had been received. No package had been provided to UPS. Only information had been.

*I called the company and after a fair amount of grief they said they would send me ANOTHER one.

*I just called back today, a full month after I ordered it and they said the replacement still hasn't been shipped. When I started pressing the very obnoxious customer service representative about the issues he started blaming UPS!!!! He said it was their fault because they couldn't pick it up due to wild fires!!!!!! Are you kidding me??????

*Here is my favorite part. I told them to cancel my order and refund my credit card and he said he couldn't refund it until 14 days after shipping!!!!!!!

This is a huge scam and please warn everyone in anyway you can about this company!

WISH I HAD READ THIS BEFORE I ORDERED. I have been charged $48 and haven't received it yet. Also they called me at 9 P.M. on Sunday night and wanted me to get all these other coupons, etc. for $1 and if I didn't cancel I would be billed $24.95/month. Told them I didn't want the other things. The second guy that was confirming the first guy was talking so fast I couldn't understand him. I hesitate to call back. I'm going to try to return it unopened and see what happens. Any other suggestions???? Thanks!!

Make your refund request in writing, send it certified/return receipt and keep copies. Cite your previous phone call to demonstrate while it is your first written complaint it is not your first complaint. If you get no satisfaction a final letter cc'd to the Better Business Bureau & any other agency/official office that has jurisdiction.

I would send the complaint to the BBB, but I would also send one off to the State Attorney General for your state, but probably the one that will get the results fastest is to make a complaint to the Federal Trade Commision. Most businesses cringe if they are turned over to the FTC. I reported a collection agency once that insisted we pay a bill that was not ours. Apparently there is another man with the same identical name as my husband (right down to the Sr. at the end) in our small town. He was calling several times a day to harrass us. I turned him into the FTC and never heard from him again. It stopped that afternoon.

I intend getting mine at Walgreens for the $49 as I really WILL have it when I want it. The extras just add in to shipping weight like I told my daughter. My birthday was the 13th of April and at my age I don't have time to wait for "express" shipping which translates to these companies of a 'forever and when they dang well feel like it' status. The kids had ordered me a "One second needle" (the China made ones) and paid a whopping 9.99 extra for a 'front of the line' on my birthday (it's the thought that counts...lol) and calling today found out that the 'front of the line' aka their version of 'express shipping' means it will not ship UNTIL 5/25/2011. Words of wisdom from me to people:
When placing an order to one of these places, get name's for the people you are speaking with (helps later when filling out a report to the BBB), do as much IN WRITING as possible (regular post office is better than email as there's no way a hacker can fake it, acquire the shipping information AND method of shipment PRIOR to giving out credit information. If ordering something to give as a gift, remember to order it at LEAST 3 months before the event so you don't give the person a copy of an email confirmation and wearing egg on your face when the recipient looks at you funny because that was the gift...a piece of paper and a promise it'll come some century or at least in the person's lifetime.

ABOVE ALL: Make certain that your credit card is NOT charged UNTIL the order is indeed shipped!

At first sign of problems with a company and an order contact the BBB and other organizations making them aware AND buyers of impending difficulties with the company. Oh...let PayPal know too. They have excellent standards of companies that deal through them and they can get money back quicker than most. I use PayPal for most online purchases because of this.

I've also been waiting for my Big Boss Grill for over a month. I ordered mine, to be exact, on 3/18/10. After the 2-3 weeks I was supposed to wait for the "arrival", I called Customer Service because I hadn't received it. The REP said they would put the order in again and that I would have to wait another 2 weeks. It's now May 3, 2010, and no grill yet. I've called a few times to the Customer Service # they have on the website and now I don't even get an answer. I keep waiting with that annoying "wait music" and a machine that says that the next customer service rep will assist me soon... Whatever! They never answer.
I check my credit card statement, to be safe, and I don't see any charges from this company. Thank God! But if I do later on, I'm calling my C.C. company and letting them know my story. It wouldn't be fair to be charged for something you never received, and if the Big Boss Grill Company doesn't answer my calls there's nothing else I can do.
So, please don't let these people scam you or anyone else you know. Pass the word around.

If you don't receive the product you ordered in a timely manner (whatever they have told you) call your credit card company and tell them you did not receive what you had ordered and you will get your money back. They will take up the issue with the company. You have to receive what you bought or your money will be refunded via your credit card co.

Thank You Kathy for your post on March 11,2011.
I actually just called my credit card company and they refunded me the amount Big Boss Grill owes me.... My credit card company is going to charge BBG back for the amount and deal with them:)

What a bad experience BBG was...I will never purchase an infomercial product (what a wast of time).

Cheers.

A Sad Big Boss Grill Story...

Posted by Tracy K. at Jan 16, 2010 11:28 AM
I was watching the infomercial early one morning as Vicki Lawrence demonstrated cooking on the Big Boss Grill. But even more alluring was the variety of removal, easy-clean plates. As quick as you can say Big Boss Grill, I was dialing the 1-800 number! My impossible-to-clean George Foreman grill would be shoved into the pantry when I received my much anticipated Big Boss Grill as a birthday gift. Fast forward to one month later and the Big Boss Grill is currently en route back to the manufacturers! First, Big Boss was lacking in a "grease drip" method that the Foreman grill possessed. Yet directions state to "lightly grease" the grill prior to cooking. During cooking, the grill collects grease and juices that have no escape. In turn, the collected moisture tends to leak into the internal mechanisms, causing the Grill to smoke, and eventually shut down or plain die! Living in an apartment, I feared the Big Boss would create pure pandemonium in my building had a fire broken out due to my insatiable desire to grill burgers without endlessly scraping the Foreman grill as punishment. So I sadly waved goodbye to the Big Boss Grill as the man in the UPS store disappeared into the back room with my damaged grill. However, the story does end happy. Much to my surprise, George Foreman now has a grill with removal plates AND the grease-drip function. My days are once again sunny and bright, filled with no-fuss indoor grilled burgers forever!

Love,Love, Love your story. I will not be buying this grill. I gave it a thought until I read the reviews. I have a George foreman grill that I purchased about 10 years ago and it suffices. I too may buy the new George Foreman with the interchangeable plates. Thanks to you and others I will not be buying the Big Boss Grill.

We didn't even use it. I never paid so much for something so cheaply made. We sent it back but they wouldn't return the shipping and handling charges so we lost double on that because we had to pay to ship it back! It was thin and the teflon coating wouldn't have lasted very long at all. They shouldn't be allowed to sell stuff like that to consumers. I give it no stars.

I received my "new toy" the end of January, 2010.
It worked amazing well the first five times I used it. I followed all the instructions to a tee. We were very impressed with it....until the sixth time I used it. It died. Now, I was not impressed with the $44.48 I had to pay the parcel person when the package arrived (not her fault) so I paid the COD charges and tried the appliance out. Upon discovering that it has a bad track record I tried to return it. Yeah, good luck with that. I have never had problems with "As Seen On TV" products before this. I will be reviewing any future purchases for sure. In the meantime I'll chalk this one up to the "live & learn" experience.

I cannot believe that such a great actress like Vicki Reynolds would have her name associated with such a terrible product. I could hardly wait for my grill to arrive but after only about three uses it stopped working. I decided to check the computer for reviews which I should have done before ordering. There were hundreds of reviews with the same problem I had. I didn't send it back yet as the shipping charges cost almost as much as the product. I guess that is how the company makes money because they are depending on people not sending back the grill. Hopefully Vicki you will not make anymore commercials for this product.

I haven't tried it yet, I tried to cancel the order with no avail. They didn't tell you what the shipping charges were until the order was placed. Couldn't contact anybody and there was no place to cancel the order. I had to pay over twenty dollars shipping charges and won't get that back even if I sent it back plus it will cost me to send it back. I received the order today and was disappointed on how shabby the cooking plates were, they don't look like they will hold up very well. I'm sorry I ordered it and probably be more sorry when I try to cook with it. Will keep you posted on the results.

HORRIBLE COMPANY - DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM

Posted by Angry in Canada at Mar 05, 2010 07:41 AM
DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY. I live in Canada and when I ordered the product I was told it was $22.90 to receive it to my door and that included all fees. However, when UPS brought the product they told me it was $45.11 for shipping. The product by the way costs $60. I refused delivery. Customer service reps with this company are dishonest, and misrepresent the product. I think the only money they are making is in the $22.90 because I don't know anyone who is happy with this product. The Better business bureau, is currently looking into my complaint. I urge you all who have had negative experiences with this company to follow up with the Better business bureau. The Parent company of the Big Boss Grill is Fosdick Corporation.

HORRIBLE COMPANY - DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM

Posted by Sean at Apr 03, 2011 11:10 AM
I had a similar experience with my order. It took over 10 wees to receive the package and upon delivery... Surprise!!! $22.90 COD charge had to be paid. The post office confirmed that this was not customs or duty charges but a payment to the company on the waybill. However, Annette, from Big Boss grill customer service rudely said it was customs, gave me the Canada Border phone number (they don't apply duty charges, that's done by Customs Canada) and hung up on me... I decided to refuse the package and will complain to the BBB.

HORRIBLE COMPANY - DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM

Posted by Vida- Canada at Aug 06, 2011 12:42 PM
I had the same experience.... when the BBG parcel was delivered to my door, i was asked to pay $22.00 in Cash ..... and Cash only!!! in order to take the parcel!??? i asked the mail man why am i required to pay that $$? i already paid in full on my credit card...he said it was Big Boss company requirement/policy for the delivery (this $22 dollars goes to BBG)... I thought, what a scam and asked the mail man to take it back refused by customer. I called BBG and asked for a refund...finally i got a refund to my credit card (too good to be true)..the credit was Not the same amount that was charged to my credit card in March. I tried calling the 800 930-6230 number on my credit card statement to ask them to adjust the credit to the original amount charged... no luck with that, because its a different company now :( its called something like EMS!! i just called my credit card company and they refunded the difference and will charge back BBG. What a waste of time this was, I will never purchase anything through any infomercial or online....consumer's should be protected from scam's like this and companies should be held accountable by law for scamming people.

Product Bad No Matter Where You Buy It

Posted by Holly at Mar 07, 2010 07:56 PM
We bought the Big Boss Grill at a local store. We didn't have to deal with the company directly or worry about shipping charges. After reading all these reviews I'm very happy we didn't have to deal with all of that. The first time we used it though, we decided it was a piece of junk. The waffle plates stuck like glue with the batter (which didn't distribute evenly) even after we sprayed it, and one of the hinge pins fell out. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!

I learned some time ago to always check out a TV advertised product online first before buying. One should also order, if you're going to, from their website rather than telephone. It's easier to say "no" to all the upselling they do if you just order online.

I think the reason they advertise on TV is because the product is poor quality, they know it, and they trust that most people won't go to the expense and risk of returning it and waiting for a refund that never comes.

They offer you a 30-day refund guarantee, but by the time you get it, try it out and find out its horrible, then send it back, your refund period AND your ability to get help on a refund from your credit card company has already expired. One should always be suspicious of anything advertised on TV - that should be everyone's mantra.

I was tempted by the commercial to get one for my daughter for her birthday, but thanks to all of you, I'll pass on this product just like so many other products of a similar poor reputation.

I am another unhappy customer. I ordered more than a month ago and was told delivery in 2 to 4 weeks. After 2 weeks I planned to cancel but no phone to call. After more than 4 weeks, the delivery came asking me to pay $120+ or more I could not remember. I refused to pay saying I gave my credit card when I placed the order, so the delivery man did not leave the merchandise. Today May 25th, post office came for another delivery asking for $25+ from Big Boss Grill again. Again I refused to pay and the man took the merchandise with him again. I decided to searched the internet and was horrified to find out about all these complaints. I am glad I made the right decision to refuse to pay. I just hope the credit card company will not charge me for these phony purchases.

issue a refund. I expalined I only recieved the grill 2 weeks ago, but no refund. So if you have any kind of nerve damage, and need electrical shocks in your ares, don't pay a Neurologist, plug in your BIG BOSS for the same treatment.

Big Boss Grill

Boy am I glad that I came across this site! I almost ordered it when I saw the commercial but have had nothing but crap from seen on tv stuff so I thought I would research it first. Saw that it was on sale at Bed Bath and Beyond which is just down the street and almost hopped up to go there.

I am a vegetarian so I dont think I would have the issue of the dripping grease but I dont want a product that shoots archs of fire out of it! LOL!

Its so sad that most of the stuff we see on TV for sale is garbage. At what point are we all going to stop falling for it?

the spokesperson for big boss grill is vicki lawrence schultz. I believe she is still married to Al schultz who is a well known make-up artist in Hollywood.

After seeing the ad on TV for ths product I went on line to order it. After reading the negative reviews I have changed my mind. I thank all of you for letting the public know about your experiences and I share your anger as I know how it feels to be scammed.

Bought mine at Best Buy for $50 ($54 including sales tax). Will let you know what problems, if any, I experience. BB's full refund return policy gave me comfort in buying it.

For those of you who have not received your grill.... YOU ARE LUCKY...CANCEL IMMEDIATELY. This is a piece of junk and not even worth $10.00. Mine is going back and costing me more money in shipping. I hope you listen.

Used it once, never worked afterwards. What a scam, rip off. Stores selling this junk should be ashamed of themselves...

Sorry, it's Cahty MITCHELL (not Daniels) who endorses and advertises for the Xpress products. Sorry, Cahty!

Thanks for the info

I was thinking of buying this, too. I currently am using the Xpress Redi-Set-Go...but it's been used so much, some of the surface is coming off. I also owned the original GT 101 Xpress. Both have been little work horses...and the Big Boss sounds like a piece of junk and the compnay not reliable. There is no grease cup on the Xpress products, and some oil did get on the coils. But there is no bad smoke back and no arcs of fire. I left this thing on all day, by accident, when I went to work one day...and when I came home, it was still on and nothing bad had resulted from it. My stove and oven set off the smoke alarm when something barely scorches. If I even get a a dark spot on my toast the smoke alarm goes off. But the 101 products do not set it off. If I cook something and take it out and sit down to eat, it might be quite a while before I even realize I left it on. So, if you want a product that lives up to the infomerical the Xpress cookers are the ones! They are made of durable material, too. The only thing I didn't realize, was when they say "Two for the price of one" they don't make plain that you will have to pay shipping on the second. Other, than that, there were no shipping problems. I know this is supposed to be a review of the Big Boss Grill...but since you guys had problems with it, I suggest you try one fo the GT 101 Xpress products (they also have the new deluxe, with double the cooking space). I have bought another product Cathy Daniels advertises for (Gem Magic), and it works as good as she says, too. So, I think she stands by good stuff. I so wanted the Big Boss Grill with all it's different plates...but I will stick to getting a new Xpress product. Thanks for advising...and do check out the Xpress products. Kohl's sells them, and Kohl's has an awesome return policy if you don't like any item.

DO NO BUY

Oh, dear, I got this for Christmas, a gift from a store. I had dropped my Foreman grill, which was too large for where I kept it. I never saw this commercial. I've used it once, and wondered about the lack of drip tray. So I guess I've got about four more uses if I'm lucky?

Darn... Darn... Darn...

Posted by Rod at Feb 01, 2011 07:05 AM
Wish I had found this before ordering. Although I just placing the order late Sat. evening. I blame the beer pops I was consuming. (only a couple...) I figured well if Vicki Lawrence is promoting this... how could "Mama" steer me wrong. Well... it appears she is just another huckster. Shame... Shame...
Then she did that deplorable piece on the homeless man Ted Williams. Maybe she well down the stairs and has a brain injury. Don't know. Did I mention Shame... Shame... on her

Regardless, tried to cancel my order as soon as their customer service opened today. Well... surprise! The ordered has already shipped. Yah... right... in less than 36 hours on the weekend. They told me, on placing the order, that it would ship in a couple of weeks. So I couldn't even cancel the darn order. SCAM... SCAM... OF course it hasn't shipped. They are hoping I won't refuse delivery and then get stuck with more shipping charges.

I will ABSOLUTELY refuse delivery. I can plan their game. Forgot to mention they charged me more shipping and handling than quoted. I kept phoning customer service back, each time getting a different rep. I think the third one I talked to decided since I was being reasonable and NOT offensive he would refund me $20 shipping charge. I am having fun with this on some level since getting cranky won't help anything and I will still be getting this crap grill after getting cranky. So I laugh at my gullible stupidity in trusting the huckster, Lawrence and not reviewing the internet before placing the order.

BE WARNED - PLEASE DON'T BUY!!!

Thank you all for your reviews...I was about to order it when I started reading all of your posts. I am so very thankful that I didn't order this piece of $%@* !!! Thanks for saving me all the time, money and headaches by letting me know that this is a waste....I can not believe Vicki Lawrence would put her name on something like this!!! I have a George that I think I will stay with and also own the product "Cathy" sells too. Why or why do they let things like this on TV??? Shame on them, all of them, whoever is involved for trying to cheat the American public...Money is tight, so please listen to your public and STOP selling bad products!!!!

Don't Buy!!!

I feel like an idiot for having ordered this expensive piece of junk. I should have read the reviews first instead of trusting Vicki Lawrence and being sucked in by the Infomercial. I can't even get a decent, fully formed waffle out of it. The removable plates are easy to clean, but the rest of the unit isn't. It cooks unevenly and if you are using any form of liquid (eggs, batter) expect it to overflow into the areas that are tough to clean. I haven't received my chopper but the company called and harassed me plenty of times trying to sell me other useless items. I have learned my lesson and will never buy anything from TV again.

Don't Buy!!!

Yes, thank God I found this website! I just watched the infomercial and was really "psyched" about it. I thought, "How cool", I'd been looking for something that would take care of all my grilling needs. But couldn't find one, and all the products they were "throwing in" almost captured me. I am sure glad I found this website in time. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.

Thanks

I was ready to buy the Big Boss and I am certainly glad to have read this first. I too have the XPress from Cathy Mitchell and it is a good product. I have bought several items from TV and have mostly been happy with them. A warning about one product though the Michael Thurman 6 week body makeover. Less than an hour after I ordered it I tried to cancel it after reading some reviews (low fat is not for me) and they told me I would have to wait until Monday when Customer Service was open. I called and they told me the payment had already gone through. Several days later it actually went through. I fought with them to no avail. Thanks again for the reviews.

It's A RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I tried ordering the grill off the television, and the price went from $39.95, to $92.00 that's all shipping and handling? What a rip off.

been waiting eight weeks. they were going to send me a chopper and juicer free. shipping charges were more than the products were worth. did not know how much until i saw the bill after paying it.
they called two times last week. the first lady i could barely hear. she said the grill was shipped and i was getting $100 free gas. al she wanted me to confirm it with her boss. when he got on the line there was way to much static. he wanted me to repete my credit card number for the free gas, i told him i didn't have it handy and he said he understood and would stay on the line till i got it. i hung up

Big Boss Grill - not worth it

Posted by Rae48 at Jul 14, 2011 05:12 PM
I had an old small George Foreman grill and wanted to upgrade. I saw the Big Boss Grill infomercial and got hooked. I called and had a very difficult time getting thru to the order taker that I only wanted the grill. BEWARE: the freebies that are offered are not free. You pay "shipping & Handling" of almost $20 for each item. The grill arrived on time. The construction is low grade. The interchangeable plates are very flimsy and not very deep. Grill a sandwich and it over flows into the electrical wires in back. Half the plates don't fit in the grill or get stuck and are hard to remove. Save you $$$ and by a Geo Foreman.

Should have called it the Big Loss Grill! I just got one, and was shocked at how cheap made they are. Small can't even fit a decent steak in the thing! By the time I cut the steak to fit, and waited, and waited, and waited for it to get done. I could have fed an army on a real grill! The inter changeable plates aren't much more then glorfide alumanum foilI know I didn't spell it rite, but you know what I mean. Don't wast your money like I did!!!
