Big Boss Grill

The Big Boss Grill claims to replace several kitchen appliances. Does it work?
Bookmark and Share

Carol Burnett's sidekick, Vicki Reynolds is the host of the  infomercial for the Big Boss Grill.  She demonstrates how you can use the Big Boss Grill as a grill, griddle, waffle iron, omelette  maker, mini-donut maker, and sandwich maker.

The selling point of the Big Boss Grill  is that is comes with interchangeable non-stick plates.  These plates allow you to remove them to make the different recipes and then throw them in the dishwasher.

The 30 minute infomercial was mainly Vicki Reynolds making different recipes with the Big Boss Grill.  In my opinion, the 30 minute format was not necessary because this grill is pretty self explanatory.

This interchangeable grill concept has already been done with the George Foreman G5 Grill.

What You Get

The grill sells with cookbook containing 50 recipes that you can prepare in under 5 minutes.  This classic as seen on TV pitch offers the Big Boss Grill for 4 payments of $19.95, then cuts off a payment, adds a free Big Boss Food Processor, then also adds omelette and donut plates, and a grill plate holder.

Does this new counter top appliance deliver the meal?  Please add your reviews of the Big Boss Grill if you have tried it.

Warning About Big Boss Grill

Posted by Heather at Oct 19, 2009 04:56 PM
DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT ORDER THIS GRILL!!!!!!! I have been waiting on mine for over a month and still nothing.

*After I placed the order I received an e-mail saying it had been shipped with a tracking number. When I went online to track it with UPS it said shipping information (only)had been received. No package had been provided to UPS. Only information had been.

*I called the company and after a fair amount of grief they said they would send me ANOTHER one.

*I just called back today, a full month after I ordered it and they said the replacement still hasn't been shipped. When I started pressing the very obnoxious customer service representative about the issues he started blaming UPS!!!! He said it was their fault because they couldn't pick it up due to wild fires!!!!!! Are you kidding me??????

*Here is my favorite part. I told them to cancel my order and refund my credit card and he said he couldn't refund it until 14 days after shipping!!!!!!!

This is a huge scam and please warn everyone in anyway you can about this company!

WISH I HAD READ THIS BEFORE I ORDERED. I have been charged $48 and haven't received it yet. Also they called me at 9 P.M. on Sunday night and wanted me to get all these other coupons, etc. for $1 and if I didn't cancel I would be billed $24.95/month. Told them I didn't want the other things. The second guy that was confirming the first guy was talking so fast I couldn't understand him. I hesitate to call back. I'm going to try to return it unopened and see what happens. Any other suggestions???? Thanks!!

I've also been waiting for my Big Boss Grill for over a month. I ordered mine, to be exact, on 3/18/10. After the 2-3 weeks I was supposed to wait for the "arrival", I called Customer Service because I hadn't received it. The REP said they would put the order in again and that I would have to wait another 2 weeks. It's now May 3, 2010, and no grill yet. I've called a few times to the Customer Service # they have on the website and now I don't even get an answer. I keep waiting with that annoying "wait music" and a machine that says that the next customer service rep will assist me soon... Whatever! They never answer.
I check my credit card statement, to be safe, and I don't see any charges from this company. Thank God! But if I do later on, I'm calling my C.C. company and letting them know my story. It wouldn't be fair to be charged for something you never received, and if the Big Boss Grill Company doesn't answer my calls there's nothing else I can do.
So, please don't let these people scam you or anyone else you know. Pass the word around.

A Sad Big Boss Grill Story...

Posted by Tracy K. at Jan 16, 2010 12:28 PM
I was watching the infomercial early one morning as Vicki Lawrence demonstrated cooking on the Big Boss Grill. But even more alluring was the variety of removal, easy-clean plates. As quick as you can say Big Boss Grill, I was dialing the 1-800 number! My impossible-to-clean George Foreman grill would be shoved into the pantry when I received my much anticipated Big Boss Grill as a birthday gift. Fast forward to one month later and the Big Boss Grill is currently en route back to the manufacturers! First, Big Boss was lacking in a "grease drip" method that the Foreman grill possessed. Yet directions state to "lightly grease" the grill prior to cooking. During cooking, the grill collects grease and juices that have no escape. In turn, the collected moisture tends to leak into the internal mechanisms, causing the Grill to smoke, and eventually shut down or plain die! Living in an apartment, I feared the Big Boss would create pure pandemonium in my building had a fire broken out due to my insatiable desire to grill burgers without endlessly scraping the Foreman grill as punishment. So I sadly waved goodbye to the Big Boss Grill as the man in the UPS store disappeared into the back room with my damaged grill. However, the story does end happy. Much to my surprise, George Foreman now has a grill with removal plates AND the grease-drip function. My days are once again sunny and bright, filled with no-fuss indoor grilled burgers forever!

Love,Love, Love your story. I will not be buying this grill. I gave it a thought until I read the reviews. I have a George foreman grill that I purchased about 10 years ago and it suffices. I too may buy the new George Foreman with the interchangeable plates. Thanks to you and others I will not be buying the Big Boss Grill.

I read all the horror stories about delivery. None of that concerned me at all. I was looking for a review of the PRODUCT. So thank you for posting this. I was at BBB today and now I'm glad they didn't even carry this grill. I too will stick with Foreman. I have one with removable plates. Three Cheers.

We didn't even use it. I never paid so much for something so cheaply made. We sent it back but they wouldn't return the shipping and handling charges so we lost double on that because we had to pay to ship it back! It was thin and the teflon coating wouldn't have lasted very long at all. They shouldn't be allowed to sell stuff like that to consumers. I give it no stars.

Big Boss Grill so far so good

Posted by Kelley from Hawaii at Feb 03, 2010 11:44 AM
I only tried it once so far and had great results. After reading the other reviews, I'm kinda nervous but the shipping for my grill was prompt and received the mini chopper. We made the tuna melt and will try out the donuts tonight. So far I am happy with the cleaning and way this has been working. Aloha!

Big (bad) Boss Grill

Posted by Ila at Feb 13, 2010 08:18 PM
I received my "new toy" the end of January, 2010.
It worked amazing well the first five times I used it. I followed all the instructions to a tee. We were very impressed with it....until the sixth time I used it. It died. Now, I was not impressed with the $44.48 I had to pay the parcel person when the package arrived (not her fault) so I paid the COD charges and tried the appliance out. Upon discovering that it has a bad track record I tried to return it. Yeah, good luck with that. I have never had problems with "As Seen On TV" products before this. I will be reviewing any future purchases for sure. In the meantime I'll chalk this one up to the "live & learn" experience.

A piece of junk. No drip pan so grease runs over into heating coils. Everything sticks unless sprayed. Poorly made and way to small. Don't waste your money. Mines going to goodwill.

I cannot believe that such a great actress like Vicki Reynolds would have her name associated with such a terrible product. I could hardly wait for my grill to arrive but after only about three uses it stopped working. I decided to check the computer for reviews which I should have done before ordering. There were hundreds of reviews with the same problem I had. I didn't send it back yet as the shipping charges cost almost as much as the product. I guess that is how the company makes money because they are depending on people not sending back the grill. Hopefully Vicki you will not make anymore commercials for this product.

Posted by Anonymous User at Mar 05, 2010 08:41 AM
I haven't tried it yet, I tried to cancel the order with no avail. They didn't tell you what the shipping charges were until the order was placed. Couldn't contact anybody and there was no place to cancel the order. I had to pay over twenty dollars shipping charges and won't get that back even if I sent it back plus it will cost me to send it back. I received the order today and was disappointed on how shabby the cooking plates were, they don't look like they will hold up very well. I'm sorry I ordered it and probably be more sorry when I try to cook with it. Will keep you posted on the results.

HORRIBLE COMPANY - DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM

Posted by Angry in Canada at Mar 05, 2010 08:41 AM
DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY. I live in Canada and when I ordered the product I was told it was $22.90 to receive it to my door and that included all fees. However, when UPS brought the product they told me it was $45.11 for shipping. The product by the way costs $60. I refused delivery. Customer service reps with this company are dishonest, and misrepresent the product. I think the only money they are making is in the $22.90 because I don't know anyone who is happy with this product. The Better business bureau, is currently looking into my complaint. I urge you all who have had negative experiences with this company to follow up with the Better business bureau. The Parent company of the Big Boss Grill is Fosdick Corporation.

Product Bad No Matter Where You Buy It

Posted by Holly at Mar 07, 2010 08:56 PM
We bought the Big Boss Grill at a local store. We didn't have to deal with the company directly or worry about shipping charges. After reading all these reviews I'm very happy we didn't have to deal with all of that. The first time we used it though, we decided it was a piece of junk. The waffle plates stuck like glue with the batter (which didn't distribute evenly) even after we sprayed it, and one of the hinge pins fell out. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!

I sure hope I get my grill they already took money.

I am another unhappy customer. I placed my order over a month ago and just checked on dlivery and was told it wouldn't shipped until the end f May. At that point I canceled and was asked if I would consider a $10.00 disoount if I did not cancel. I said no and got a cancellation number and the name of the customer service person. I only pray that it is really canceled. My next move is to contact the BBB to see what they can do.

I learned some time ago to always check out a TV advertised product online first before buying. One should also order, if you're going to, from their website rather than telephone. It's easier to say "no" to all the upselling they do if you just order online.

I think the reason they advertise on TV is because the product is poor quality, they know it, and they trust that most people won't go to the expense and risk of returning it and waiting for a refund that never comes.

They offer you a 30-day refund guarantee, but by the time you get it, try it out and find out its horrible, then send it back, your refund period AND your ability to get help on a refund from your credit card company has already expired. One should always be suspicious of anything advertised on TV - that should be everyone's mantra.

I was tempted by the commercial to get one for my daughter for her birthday, but thanks to all of you, I'll pass on this product just like so many other products of a similar poor reputation.

I am another unhappy customer. I ordered more than a month ago and was told delivery in 2 to 4 weeks. After 2 weeks I planned to cancel but no phone to call. After more than 4 weeks, the delivery came asking me to pay $120+ or more I could not remember. I refused to pay saying I gave my credit card when I placed the order, so the delivery man did not leave the merchandise. Today May 25th, post office came for another delivery asking for $25+ from Big Boss Grill again. Again I refused to pay and the man took the merchandise with him again. I decided to searched the internet and was horrified to find out about all these complaints. I am glad I made the right decision to refuse to pay. I just hope the credit card company will not charge me for these phony purchases.

I received it within 2 weeks of ordering and have used it continuously, for different meals and desserts and just LOVE it.

If you read the manual first, I don't believe you should have problems.

It has made everyday lunch a real treal along with breakfast. Even made waffle ice cream sandwiches!

I highly recommend it!

I purchased this piece of junk at Bed Bath and Beyond. Brought it home and read the manual....Did EVERYTHING as the booklet stated and tried to make burgers. Within minutes smoke and a small arc flame came from it!! I knew if it was not unplugged the fire dept would be at my home soon. I called customer service and NO ONE ANSWERED. Also the recordings are illegible from the company menu.
DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PIECE OF SCAMWARE!!

Big Boss Grill Shocker

Posted by Bernie at Jul 13, 2010 08:47 AM
I got the Big Boss Grill after waiting 2 months for delivery, and it worked 1 time for a steak I cooked, and after that it shocked me every time I used it. Obviously, Vikki Lawrence don't cook, and has never used this grill. Every time I try to use this grill I get an electrical shock. You cannot touch this grill if it's turned on or LOOK OUT Zappo. It's a piece of junk. I called the company and they stated I had the grill to long and they could not
issue a refund. I expalined I only recieved the grill 2 weeks ago, but no refund. So if you have any kind of nerve damage, and need electrical shocks in your ares, don't pay a Neurologist, plug in your BIG BOSS for the same treatment.

Boy am I glad that I came across this site! I almost ordered it when I saw the commercial but have had nothing but crap from seen on tv stuff so I thought I would research it first. Saw that it was on sale at Bed Bath and Beyond which is just down the street and almost hopped up to go there.

I am a vegetarian so I dont think I would have the issue of the dripping grease but I dont want a product that shoots archs of fire out of it! LOL!

Its so sad that most of the stuff we see on TV for sale is garbage. At what point are we all going to stop falling for it?
